The Tour de France is the most prominent cycling race in the world. It’s now in its 109th edition and it’s being called the ‘Highest in History’ because there are more climbs than ever before. This is important because the climbs are where the race is won and lost. The best riders rely on their teammates to get them through the long, flat, and hilly stages, before they take on the mountain stages on their own. These are the hardest and most brutal stages of the race - but they are exactly what makes the Tour de France famous.

Clarification: In our discussion of the 2010 race, our video neglected to mention that Alberto Contador was later stripped of the title because he had tested positive for using a performance-enhancing drug.

Alexander Supertramp that’s a good idea and it would be amazing but it isn’t safe for athletes. It puts an emphasis on the tech rather than the athlete.

The wattage alone isn't everything since what's more important on hills is watts per kilogramme of bodyweight. What's also incredible is their ability to recover. Lance Armstrong admitted that pretty much everything he took, other than EPO, was so he could recover his body faster, making him able to train for longer

Missing out on echelons here, they often cause larger time-gaps than mountain stages. Also not mentioning time-trials seems a bit daft.

Watts dont mean anything, what is important is w/ kg. For example if I push 500w for 5 minutes and i have 100kg thats 5w/kg and if I push 300w and I have 50 kg I eill push 6w/kg and that’s remarkably faster.
CONCLUSION: do more research next time

The modern tour is not nearly as brutal as in days of yore. In the early years a rider was not allowed to receive any assistance including repairs. A rider's fork broke at one point and he had to weld it back together himself. He was still penalized because he didn't pump the bellows for himself as if he were an octopus. They carried their own replacement tires and pumps. It wasn't a race to the finish so much as a test of survival. Few racers made it to the end.
